The month of September has flown by in the Hadley speech room! Here's what we were up to:
Social Skills
September was a "hero" month for students working on social skills. In collaboration with Dr. Perez (one of our fantastic school psychologists) our students have been learning all about how to be an everyday superhero. What are the attributes of a hero? How can we be a hero to our friends? See the link below for a great video from Kid President!
In other groups, we focused on Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking Curriculum. We really started to dive into how our actions affect others and how others may be thinking about us (even when we don't realize it!)
Articulation
Lots and lots of reading this month! Students who are working on generalization of their speech sounds did tons of reading activities. We also pulled materials from social studies and science classes to make our own sentences and paragraphs for practice.
Expressive/Receptive Language
Students with language goals have really been focusing on curricular vocabulary this month. Some classes started reading a novel, "Freak the Mighty" and we have been working on reading comprehension, inferencing, and vocab within the novel.
Services were also up and running at St. Petronille School! The schedule is still being finalized but I am excited to be over there providing services in-house on Friday afternoons!
Our motto in the speech room has been, "If you want to be awesome, treat people awesome."
